What to do in Puerto Plata: a perfect-day guide

Waterfalls in the morning, historic downtown at noon, beach at sunset: how to build the ideal day on the north coast.

What to do in Puerto Plata: a perfect-day guide

Start early at the Damajagua Waterfalls, when the water is freshest and crowds are thinnest. At noon walk the historic center: San Felipe Fortress, Umbrella Street and a rum tasting. End the day at Sosúa beach or strolling the boardwalk.

If you're arriving by cruise ship, the half-day city tour gets you back to port with plenty of margin. And if you're staying several days, save Cayo Arena for the best beach day of your trip.
